What we all know, however, is that most prostitutes come from horrendous backgrounds and have few choices about how to keep body and soul together. I wonder what this government proposes, besides more jails, to protect these (mostly) women and to support families and children so that they don't end up in this dangerous environment. It seems that Harper et al just want prostitution to go away but we all know that isn't going to happen. Let's look at harm reduction and keep the religious arguements out of the discussion. And let's have some discussion about this from our elected representatives in the appropriate forum, which is our parliament.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11931513.post-56379365936997713812010-09-29T08:31:34.351-04:002010-09-29T08:31:34.351-04:00Unfortunately, the data shows the men women should...Unfortunately, the data shows the men women should most fear are the ones closest to them. And besides, while prostitution may be inherently dangerous that doesn't justify laws that make it more dangerous for these women.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11931513.post-39912592620022748892010-09-29T07:16:51.627-04:002010-09-29T07:16:51.627-04:00I see Kay is contributing to the negative image of...I see Kay is contributing to the negative image of prostitution... "...any sex worker who demands respect as a matter of course is fooling herself. She is not respectable."<br /><br />I think the same of journalists, at times.<br /><br />Criminalizing (essentially) sex workers hasn't made the trade go away. It's just made it more dangerous and somehow -- tragically -- has made its workers less worthy of our protection from crime.Mark Richard Francishttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16331995640397477486noreply@blogger.com
