Children's Wish - 2007 Wishmaker Parade

Wise, Kirsh and Winberg (that's my band, not a law firm™ ) were glad to return to Sunnybrook Park in Toronto this morning to do a few songs at the 2007 Children's Wish Wishmaker Parade.

Last year's Wishmaker was a bit on the chilly side, but fortunately, today we had nice, brisk fall morning for this great event by a truly worthy organization.

Here's a bit of background on the annual Children's Wish Wishmaker Parade:

Wishmaker Parade, the marquis fundraising event of The Children's Wish Foundation of Canada, is a fun-filled family day that includes a parade and a community celebration. Children and adults alike are encouraged to dress up in their favourite costume while enjoying complimentary activities, such as face painting, large bouncy toys, entertainment and food and refreshments. More than 100 parades will take place in communities across Canada on the same day.

Monies raised through Wishmaker will go towards granting wishes to children who struggle with high risk, life-threatening illnesses. "Wishmaker Parade celebrates the granting of wishes, like Zachary's trip, in a community," says Sandi Hancox, the Ontario Chapter Director, "and raises the resources needed to continue our work in wish granting." The Foundation has granted nearly 13,000 wishes to Canadian children since 1984.

"We are proud that we have never denied a wish to an eligible child. We have granted more wishes in Canada than all other wish granting agencies combined."

If you are able, please help with a donation so that Children's Wish can continue to making kids' special wishes come true.

Wayne, Michael and I had a great time, and will look forward to being back next year. And for those who want to know, WKW did four original songs in our set, It Don't Matter, Northland Summer, Casting Colours and Wayward Son. Pics are posted on Facebook.

Thanks to Paul Lawrence, Frances Makdessian and all the volunteers, kids, walkers and well-wishers who came out to make it a fantastic day (with special mention of the Starbuck's crew, who donated and served their usual, exceptional brew).
