Our Quote of the Day is from Digby:
Every time they normalize state sanctioned sadism, from tasering to waterboarding, we are one step closer to fully accepting a police state. That's how they do it. It never happens over night. It happens one taboo at a time.
Digby's comment might well be read in conjunction with the well-known, epic prose below, a genuine Quote for All Time.
These words, of course, are the stark, call-to-action of Pastor Martin Niemoeller, a German church leader who narrowly escaped death in Dachau concentration camp, after being imprisoned for his opposition to Nazism:
First they came for the Communists, but I was not a Communist so I did not speak out.
Then they came for the Socialists and the Trade Unionists, but I was neither, so I did not speak out.
Then they came for the Jews, but I was not a Jew so I did not speak out.
And when they came for me, there was no one left to speak out for me.
He knew what he spoke of.
This is Holocaust Education Week.
Speak out.
