The Trial of KSM

With the Obama administration's decision today to try Khalid Sheikh Mohammed and other "enemy combatants" in public trials to be held at New York City, the torture debate is about to find its way into open court in America.

If I was Dick Cheney, I'd be very, very worried.

(Another brilliant chess move by Obama?)

Update - November 16, 2009

A similar take at C&L, in response to Liz Cheney's stated objections on the Sunday talk show circuit to the New York criminal proceedings:

What she's worried about are her father's pesky war crimes coming to light.

WTF?

Seriously. Enemy combatents are not US citizens... not US military. They have no standing other than as combatents.

They have no rights under the US constitution. They are ememy combatents. Period. They are NOT citizens. They do NOT deserve the same protection as US citizens.

Interestingly enough... Obama USED to be pretty okay with KSM getting a full military trial.

"the torture debate"

???

The trials are not about torture - and any lawyer worth their salt should be able to dereail that sideline easily.

The trials are about terrorist activity... period. Remember two (*#($&#ing planes that plowed into the NY towers killing thousands??? Another that flew into the pentagon? Ringing any bells?

FOCUS.. legalchan.

Did they have part of that or did they not? That is the question.

If they wanna make this about intel and how it was obtained... let'em make it part of their own suit against the military.

CAIR would thow 'em a few bucks for it I'm sure.

In the meantime.. FOCUS.
